Public aid for suburban venues

Many area entertainment venues are owned by, or receive support from, public entities:
’ΔΆ Metropolis Performing Arts Centre, Arlington Heights: Purchased by village in 2004, four years after opening.
’ΔΆ Paramount Theatre, Aurora: Purchased by independent Aurora Civic Center Authority in 1976, reopened in 1978 after renovation, receives some programming funding from city of Aurora.
’ΔΆ Genesee Theatre, Waukegan: Reopened in 2004 after renovation, owned by the city.
’ΔΆ Wheaton Grand Theater, Wheaton: City council to hold a public hearing July 27 on extending a taxing district to help fund restoration as part of a proposed takeover by the park district.
’ΔΆ Fox Valley Ice Arena and Elfstrom Stadium, Geneva: Both owned by Kane County Forest Preserve District.
’ΔΆ Schaumburg venues: Village owns Renaissance Hotel and Convention Center, and Prairie Center for the Arts, and co-owns Alexian Field with park district.
’ΔΆ Rosemont venues: Village owns the Allstate Arena, the Rosemont Theatre and the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center.
